A Roman style setting, vicious, well written battle scenes, epic sword fights. A female mc who refuses to be used and abused. Hell yes. Fantasy has been spoiling me lately with some fantastic books and Silverlegs by Camilla Monk is another top notch read. (How badass is the title and cover by the way!!)
Constanter knows how to run. She can run for hours and after being brutally attacked by her step father she draws on this innate talent. She refuses to be his victim anymore, she runs and hides, far away from the family who want to use her and control her. Unfortunately she runs from one danger straight into another. After being mistaken for a boy she is forced to fight for Clearchos, if she loses she dies. Constanter faces each challenge head on, refusing to be cowed. With her supreme speed and savage lust for violence, she slowly says goodbye to Constanter and becomes the feared Silverlegs.
What a fucked up world! The religion of the day is slowly murdering those who worship the old gods, religion is taking over the ruling body, controlling the war. It is happily destroying everyone who doesnѓ??t conform to their views. We spend the majority of the book in a mercenary camp, so we donѓ??t get a big picture of the outside world, itѓ??s all very one sided but I feel as though this will change in book two.
The characters were so well put together. There were characters who were so fleshed out, they were practically leaping off the page, I was convinced they would be in the story for the long haul, next thing you know they are dead. No-one is safe here and I love that. It reflects war and a mercenary camp much better than if everyone had survived.
Constanter is a main character that I know a lot of my bookish friends will love. She works hard to become the badass she is, it doesnѓ??t come easy to her. But what sets her apart is her drive, she refuses to backdown. She takes her natural ability and uses it to her advantage. She is burning with rage and uses the opportunities given to her to let it out.
ѓ??I took care of the spears next as they tried to run away to call for help. They should never have; they would never know the rush of ink-black pleasure in my veins as I hunted them, sliced through their knee tendons to cripple them before I ripped their warm throats. A young cohort with good legs almost made it to the door. Almost. Someone should have warned him that the demon Silverlegs ran up walls too.ѓ?ќ
I loved the way Silverlegs came together. I was certain I knew exactly where it was heading only to have all of my expectations blown out of the water. I feel like this is a book where I have to be really careful what I say as I donѓ??t want to spoil anyone elseѓ??s reading experience. Hence the super vague review. I donѓ??t even want to mention the supporting cast to much. The setting of this book means that women are treated very badly, they are considered the very bottom of the social ladder. It is set in a mercenary camp, during a war, it is as violent as you can get. Our main characters arc is covered in blood. There is nothing light and fluffy about it. And these are all of the reasons I loved it. The author didnѓ??t pull any punches, their was no pussy footing around the brutal realitlies, she laid it all out there for you to see. My poor heart! I cannot wait for book 2.

2.5 stars.
The premise for this book is top notch. I love in books when the world goes to shit, it really brings out the best and worst in people. Some just try and get by, some help those around them and some are out for themselves. Marty falls into the last category. He is a selfish arse, who just wants to get to his brother, unfortunately he is on the other side of the world.
Elliot is the mayorѓ??s son who is willing to cross the line to catch the bad guys. Unfortunately for him that makes him a bad guy in his mothers eyes.
These two men couldnѓ??t be more different and now they are stuck together in the fog, learning about the new world, themselves and each other. They have to learn how to survive and in doing so they may discover the truth about their world.
Having your deepest fears come to life is probably as bad as it gets really. For Marty, who suffers from OCD and has severe anxiety symptoms, it is literally the stuff of nightmares. He struggles to control his thoughts at the best of times let alone when they could manifest monsters. The tension built throughout really well. The story moved a long quite quickly so you never got bored. You could easily sit down and read this in a day, itѓ??s incredibly compelling.
This is a book that I think is best read without knowing to much about the story. Let that gorgeous cover suck you in and avoid the detailed reviews until afterwards.
I will say that my favourite part of this book was Martyѓ??s character arc. Damn he had some growth. Also the description of his symptoms and mental health issues were so spot on. While I was reading it, I was convinced that the author had been through the same or similar issues to Marty, because the way she explained them and the shame we attach to our inability to control them was incredibly relatable.
ѓ??I lift my zip-tied hands, tap the door frame three times on the left and five on the right, hoping Elliott doesnѓ??t notice. Relief saturates me; now Iѓ??ll be safe from the Beings, safe from the fog. Three and five are good numbers. Theyѓ??ll protect me.
But barely a second later, a tidal wave of shame rips through me, drowning the relief. I curl my hands into fists, furious with myself. Iѓ??ve just broken a yearlong streak of not performing any of my compolsions. How hard is it to simpily walk through a damn doorway? All I had to do was not tap it, but somehow I couldnѓ??t even manage that. I know tapping wonѓ??t protect me. I know the relief never lasts long. I know all about the lies OCD is telling me ѓ?? and I still gave in to them anyway.ѓ?ќ
I donѓ??t have OCD but I know those feelings of shame and frustration. It is something I think many with mental health issues can understand. It turns out that this is ѓ??own voicesѓ?ќ, so she was very much writing what she knows. And she does it honestly and respectfully.
I received a copy of Refraction via Netgalley.

It takes a thief to catch a sunrise is an absolute pleasure to read. It is full of adventure, intrigue and thieving. Itѓ??s fast paced and will surprise you through out. I was absolutely convinced that I knew what was happening and how it would, I was 100% wrong.
Jacques and Isabel are fantastic characters. Their devotion to each other is a joy to read, they know each other so well that half the time it feels like we are intruding on their personal jokes. They are completely in tune with one another and itѓ??s so nice to have this pure relationship (I use that term loosely, they are thieves after all) against a backdrop of blackmail, scandal and political intrigue. They have each others back and love each other deeply. They are talented in the art of deceiving those around them and can play just about any role. Jacques is the more playful of the two, he enjoys stealing for the sake of it. Itѓ??s not just about getting rich, itѓ??s about planning the job and figuring out how to get around all of the barriers in their way. Isabel is the true actor, she is mesmerising.
ѓ??Politics is like a fist fight only without the rules and good etiquette.ѓ?ќ
I enjoyed the setting. The world was going through a time of change, while those on the outer fringes still used lanterns, in the city electric lights were in fashion. It had a steampunk vibe with airships and automatons. It takes a thief to catch a sunrise is an absolute pleasure to read. It is full of adventure, intrigue and thieving. Also Shawn King did the cover design for this, and if Iѓ??m not mistaken a lot of Robѓ??s other books, and as always he absolutely nailed it.

Priest of Lies picks up a couple of months after Priest of Bones finished and straight away we are drawn back in. This time round there is more political intrigue, just as much violence and fantastic character development. If you liked Priest of Bones you will love Priest of Lies.
