Really loved the Shakespearean references! I liked how the novel was split up into Acts and Scenes as though it was a play. And I adored how the students would speak to one another with lines from Shakespear  plays when they couldn't express themselves.

Otherwise, Its a bit too similar to Donna Tartt's 'The Secret History' in other respects for me to rate it higher than 3.5.

Worth the read though!!

I'm Irish. Why on earth am I admitting to genuinely enjoying this book. I grew up a Doctor Who/Matt Smith fan, ended up watching The Crown and now we're here...

*Facepalms*

In all fairness though, 'Before the Crown' is a really sweet romance novel and the historical context is very interesting. This was the perfect blend of a (somewhat) stiff-upperlip love story and insight into the traditions of the British monarchy. Flora Harding's writing style is also lovely and the ending is very satisfying.

Really captures something of Nora's complex but lovable nature as well as her relationship with James. Fly high Goseen!
