It feels like I've read a novel-long poem. It's beautifully written and makes great use of Indian mythology (among others), but it is also a bit hard to follow and the author's point is not always clear. It is certainly one of the most original Hugo winners I've read, but it can be challenging and it certainly isn't light reading (not that it's a bad thing per se). 

I'd never read any Zelazny before so I didn't know what to expect. It has a vast and complicated cast of characters, who change form and names along the way, and their goals are not always clear. It is certainly rewarding language-wise and it contains philosophy as well as nice fantastical concepts, but I cannot say that I loved it.

A very interesting read. Some parts are dated, but I got over it pretty quickly. The concepts are fascinating though and the writing is very good.
It’s remarkable in many ways and prefigures cyberpunk in many ways. A bit challenging at times but worth the read.

It’s nice to read a book that wasn’t written by a Westerner. It is refreshing and interesting.

The very concept of the book is original, well thought out. The localisation in China, with the effects of the Cultural Revolution, also make this book a pretty unique read, at least for me.

I found the story to be captivating, the twists original and the various elements relevant and challenging. My only complaint is about the characters.

They are pretty bland, and it feels like they shouldn’t. In a fast paced, plot-only book, I don’t mind bland characters. But here, the pace is slow and it feels like the author wants us to connect with them, but I never really did. 

Part of that can come from the translation or simply that character development is different in a Chinese novel than in a European or American one. So it might be a fault on my part, not the book’s. But I still find it an issue, for this particular reader anyway.

I enjoyed it, I do recommend it, but I don’t know if I care enough about this story and these characters to read the rest of the trilogy. I’ll think on it in the coming months, see if I can find a solution to the “three books problem”.

An interesting read and certainly a fresh take on the “Super” gang. A better read than most Superman or Supergirl stories.

King is hit and miss, but I find this one to be a hit. It’s not a masterpiece in storytelling, but it is good and quite original. It does add depth to Supergirl’s character, which o appreciate.

What does set this book apart is the art, Evely’s work is truly superb. Each panel is crafted with care, emotion, subtlety and strength. Characters are jumping off the page and the decors are extraordinary. It’s worth getting for the art alone.

Not a bad book, but weaker than the rest of the series. Card ran out of steam here I think. He wanted to conclude his story, which is honourable, but the result is a fairly bland tale. Still, glad I read it to conclude the series.
