Do Not Say We Have Nothing
I’m not a huge historical fiction reader, even as a history teacher. It’s never been a genre I’ve gravitated towards. This book was picked for my October bookclub read.
I’m not going to lie and say that I was gripped by this book immediately. I struggled through the first 120 to 150 pages and I just couldn’t get into the prose and the storyline.
Then I started listening to the audiobook alongside reading the physical book and it totally changed my reading experience.
The characters are so intricately developed and beautifully rounded. The focus on art and its impact on the human experience is extraordinary.
Its exploration of a part of history that I know a little about but not a lot was just so enlivening.
By the end of this narrative, I was so glad I persevered because watching these fragments come together and seeing the impacts of events generations apart on these people was deeply moving.
7.5/10 - well worth the push out of your comfort zone
😭🥺😰🤭 - I definitely did shed a few years.
