 "This is so similar to the story of Apollo and Hyacinthus that you wonder if some bard somewhere got drunk and confused."

There are many wonderful encyclopedias and great texts on Greek Mythology, I dare say however, that few would be injected with as much sarcasm and wit as Stephen Fry's, Mythos. The humorous easy undertone makes the entire read delightful to pick up and very difficult to put down.

"Green fingers are better than gold"

Other than the above and the obvious, there is also comprehensive history on the origins of words, names and mannerisms that we so frequently use today, nearly every page contains a new slither of information. And yet, at no point does Mythos ever fail to be anything other than entertaining, or too difficult and dull to digest.

"Philia - the form of love applied to friendship, partiality and fondness. We see its traces in words like 'Francophile', 'Necrophilia' and 'Philanthropy'.

Mythos is officially a book that I will be tempted to pick up in order to resummaries any main character before I dive into Mythology retellings in the future. In that same vain, call me a Mythology novice, but a few notary chapters that I had not the slightest recall of prior to staring this journey and adored;

- The original Romeo & Juliet, Pyramus & Thisbe.
- The Weaver Idmon, officially one of my favorite stories that I would love to read and explore more into.
- Hyacinthus, not so to new but only ever had a vague idea of.

All in all, if your into mythology and retelling's Mythos is a must, and I can not wait to start Heroes.

"Myths to put it simply and obviously, deal with gods and monsters that can't be observed or pointed at."

 It’s nearly refreshing to read a fantasy book that is just so purely brutal and raw. But refreshing is most definitely the wrong description.

Because the answer could not be rational. It was not founded in military strategy. It was not because of a shortage of food rations, or because of the risk of insurgency or backlash. It was, simply, what happened when one race decided that the other was insignificant.

Slow claps for R.F Kuang for yet again blowing my mind, and there’s so much more to come, and from what I have heard it only gets better. I imagine after reading the next books that this might alter in my mind to five stars. There isn’t any fluff, unbelievable strategy, realistic war time lines, cruel realities, great battle and fights, wonderful lore, and fundamentally the friendships, comrades and even enemies are so well developed.

 "Because," he answered testily, "you believe in nothing but what consists with your own prejudices and illusions. I remember when I was like you, but I have learned better."

Instantly makes to remove all copies of Dracula from shelves and replaces with beautiful hardcover versions of Carmilla.

And when she had spoken such a rhapsody, she would press me more closely in her trembling embrace, and her lips in soft kisses gently glow upon my cheek.

This is everything I could have dreamt of. Nightmares and all, simple, captivating, steeped in lust and gothic undertones. A book doesn’t have to been 300 plus pages to tell a detailed story. It just has to be written exquisitely.

”Girls are caterpillars while they live in the world, to be finally butterflies when the summer comes; but in the meantime there are grubs and larvae, don't you see each with their peculiar propensities, necessities and structure. So says Monsieur Buffon, in his big book, in the next room."

Excellent.
