I had a lot of fun reading this. The characters were complex (but slightly predictable) and the plot was compelling. I would have liked to see more of Madison and Lillian work through their issues, both on their own and together. Overall this wasn’t a life changing book but after a lot of heavy nonfiction this was an enjoyable change of pace!

I’M WOUNDED

I hated the main character and I loved her too - I’m always in awe when a writer can encourage me to feel both things at once. This book made me angry, sad, happy, everything. It isn’t a book that’s tied up neatly with a bow, leaving you with a solid understanding of each of the characters. I read it in less than 24 hours, finding myself needing to absorb every word until it was over.

Essential reading for any white woman starting a journey of anti-racism. Powerful insight and reminder that if your fear of being confronted about racism is more powerful than your desire to get uncomfortable to become an ally, you are part of the problem.
