An interesting, although at some times lengthy, account of a time that white history has written over. Grann tells the story neatly and concisely, and balances out the text with plentiful (and useful) black and white photographs. I was expecting to learn a little more about the early years of the FBI and/or early crime solving techniques based off the prominence of the "birth of the FBI" in the title.

not at all what I expected. empathetic to the point of being exploitative?
