The Russian folklore aspect was very interesting and enjoyed that. The book is a very good YA fantasy, which I just have grown out.

Wonderful exploration of what it is to be human. Not a book where much action is happening, very stream of consciousness (with barely any breaks) and still was not able to put it down, also because you want to know the answers to the same questions as the protagonist

Update: bumped rating up from 4.5 to 5 stars because it has infiltrated my dreams weeks later, that's how good it is

Had niet verwacht dat dit boek zo zwaar zou vallen op de ziel. Normaal geen fan van Nederlandse literatuur maar dit is knap geschreven

Wonderful book. I felt so seen, as it reminded me of the stories I would make up when I was younger. I feel like the more negative reviews fail to recognize that it's YA, so directed towards teenagers. It definitely deserves a place in the YA canon imo and I wish it would've been publidhed when I was younger.
A strong, yet no Mary Sue, main character, trying to overcome the misogyny of a "dark" academia setting. The writing and setting are wonderful

Maybe I'm just a sucker for slowburn and an actual likeable mmc because why did this guy just make a whole instagram account to look at her ass and the next paragraph is about a memorial for his dead wife... halfway through the book and there is just one romantic scene and everything after what is supposedly romantic is just sex... where is the actual romance??

Would've loved this fun little fantasy  with timetravel and suspense as a tween, now it is just not for me. The audiobook by BBC World Service is great

Absolute masterpiece, probably even better on a reread after many years reading it as a teenager. Katniss' inner monologue and dealing with all the trauma has so much more depth than I remembered

Didn't expect the dark academia setting but loved it. Might not be a really thrilling thriller, but did enjoy it
