If you like dolphins, you won't after this. I went into it expecting commentary on how people have destroyed and still are destroying our oceans, but was distracted from it by the messy jumble of POVs, constant dolphin rape, violence and crackheads. I cannot imagine the way this is written and served does anything to raise awareness or elicit strong feelings for conservation in people. The writing was mediocre and felt unedited. An overall disappointment.

Incredibly boring. Poor characterisation. The actions of the three people renovating the house make no sense. I just cannot stand stupid character choices.

After loving the first book, I'm just angry and disappointed. Aside from the fact that the first 40% was pretty much recap of the first book (very annoying when you read back to back), the story was unnecessarily convoluted, enough for even the author herself to constantly confuse the details. And even though she thoroughly recapped what happened in the first book, she still didn't trust her reader enough to remember things, giving us constant reminders of what a certain animal or symbol was. It got better around the 50% mark, but I just knew that she'd end up making the goddesses not just evil, but worse than their male counterparts, and doesn't that just defeat the whole purpose of the series? Wasn't it supposed to be a voice against male oppression of women? Even aside from that, there's so much in this book that contradicts itself. Add to that overall poor writing with overuse of certain phrases and you're left with a disappointing mess.

This was really good in terms of keeping me on the edge of my seat. I wasn't surprised by the reveal, as I thought about it myself at some point of the book, but it didn't ruin the reading experience for me. In terms of the plot itself, there were a few things at the end that didn't quite seem feasible or make sense. There were so many red herrings, as is usual with the genre, and I thought the author was trying a little too hard to cast doubt on the two MCs. The blurb makes them seem horrible, but they're just... regular people. All in all, I think it's up there among Feeney's most gripping work.
