Just not feeling compelled enough to continue. I had higher hopes for this, but it's one of those sci-fi ones that throws a ton of new terms at you without even the most basic explanation, which prevents me from visualising the story, and I'm just not in the headspace to trudge through it until things start making sense.

There were some things that seemed a bit of a reach and some that didn't really make sense in the context, but man, all the POVs were so utterly gripping that I binged this in two days!

The idea of this book is excellent and I thought it was quite cleverly done in terms of how it built on the issues that arose during the covid pandemic and that follow us to this day. I really loved how the core of the book was constructed around domestic violence and generational trauma. As a fellow victim I appreciate how difficult it must have been for the author to write about it. For a good chunk, the book had me physically nauseous and trembling with rage, and there was no respite because horrible stuff just kept happening. I don't know if it was done knowingly, but it almost felt like I had nowhere to escape, just like the victims, and even when I finally got to breathe because the story calmed down a bit, I knew that there was still that one big threat, looming somewhere in the pages ahead.
I also liked the social commentary, but I thought it was a bit on the nose and that the story could have used some sublety.

No complaints, no notes. This book was just perfect. I wish I could give this to every single kid to read.
