"This book, a story for children by children, wasn't easy to tell and isn't easy to hear. But it's not only a story of adults' cruelty and neglect; at the end of the day, it's also a story of children's strength, courage, and hope."

While I did enjoy the little twist at the end, I couldn't get into this book.

Thank you Edelweiss for an E-copy ARC of this book! I enjoyed that Avery wasn't your typical YA main character. She kept her focus on the investigation into her family rather than the boys who constantly surround her. Overall this book will be well loved, especially by those who like mysteries with a little romance.

"I'm right back where I started but I'm not the same. And I'm not going to hide."

"The thing about lying is that if you do it enough, it becomes something you don't even have to think about. Just like breathing. I would know. I've been doing it my whole life, for them.
My family."

Woof.

"Rule number eighty-one of friendship," he answers. "Friends don't let friends get murdered by horrifying skull monsters on the bridge between the Veil and the place beyond."
