I really like Fanie's writing style, but the story itself was thin (pun not originally intended). I would have wanted to see more resolution at the end.

I get that there is valuable commentary being made about cultural appropriation, cancel culture, and the ease with which truth can be blurred, but I did not enjoy spending hours with this ignorant, insufferable protagonist. There were very few kind characters, in fact, which just felt like a very cynical and unrealistic view of the world. I could have made a drinking game out of the occurance of the word bitch...
I am just a lot more interested in growth than karma. This wasn't for me.

A book I had to take my time with. Significantly broadened my understanding of the term two-spirit, and of certain aspects of the histories of indigenous peoples on Turtle Island. Crow was a very welcome source of meaningful levity in a journey that meanders through darker historical truths.
The Anxious Generation: How The Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness
The subject matter is important and there are definitely a number of good, substantiated claims. However, they are marred by excessive reaching and damaging speculations. I nearly DNFed several times. His bias is made very clear in his patronizing tone. I feel like this won't reach the people it has the most potential to impact, because it lacks the necessary empathy and honesty to foster trust.
His chapter on spirituality is what I found most compelling, personally, and his rhetoric around gender dysphoria is what disappointed me the most.
