I had the privilege of beta reading Murder in Lakeside by Alicia Restucci. It is a stunningly woven murder mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat. I saw myself reflected in the main character and I felt like I was reading a novel from the likes of Karen M. McManus (One of Us is Lying) or Holly Jackson (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder). I highly recommend this book to any fan of murder mysteries or just really hot love interests who have a few secrets they’re hiding.

T’was dull.

I have three things to say about this book. One: I binged this in a single day (very good). Two: I now need the ready because the emotional damage was very damaging. Three: FINN IS THE BEST AND I LOVE HIM.

Unfortunately this book was not my vibe. It was very graphic and the romance felt abusive to me. I’m strongly reminded of Twilight through the characters which may have contributed to my dislike. I am sure this book has an audience, unfortunately it is not me.

I was unaware when I bought this book that it was a sequel (seems to be happening to me more often) so I lack background knowledge that would have been provided in book one. This book just didn’t stick out to me. It felt a little choppy.

The only thing I didn’t like was that hot showers = negative words when it’s cold showers that make me sad.

A fantastic introduction to a new series!

This is definitely a short and easy read in the sense that I read it all in one sitting. It felt like a campfire story that I would have heard when I was younger. I struggled a little to identify with the main character which impacted my enjoyment of the story but objectively it was a very well written and well plotted story.

A lovely short story with rich characterization.
