I really liked the snail story, and the one with the mosquito women. I think both were really bizarre and were def my favorites in this volume.

To me this isn’t the strongest of Ito’s works, but it’s certainly one of the weirdest. I feel like there were too many ideas happening at once and the storyline was fairly weak, but the body horror was very memorable. I also think Kaori is one of the weaker heroines Ito has written.

This is actually the first Ito short story I read a couple years ago and I was excited to re-read it in Gyo because I literally have not stopped thinking about it since.

As someone who is sacred of holes, I can easily say that spirals are just as unsettling and I hate how much I liked being spooked by them.

I don’t really like the Princess storyline because I think it plays too much on outdated gender roles and makes a gender parallel that I don’t really find scary or interesting.

Umezu really wants to drive home that women aren’t supposed to be leaders according to sixth/fifth grade boys huh?
