I really liked the twist the story took, and how it followed a cyclical story without being too repetitive. Fantastic storytelling.
I keep forgetting I’m reading this so I’m taking that as a sign.
I’m just not really engaged in the story. It could be that my life is too chaotic right now, but I felt similarly about Freshwater.

First Read:
I really loved the letters in this book. I enjoyed seeing the main character, Marcos, struggle with love and the changes in his life. He’s not a likable character, but his struggles and obsession with the woman who wrote these letters is very human.
Second Read:
Still breathless. This second read showed me how interconnected the chapters in this book are. Marcos is sad and insufferable, but feels so real. There's so many quotes in this book that haunt me. There's so much to unpack in this story, so I'll certainly be reading this a third time.

I feel like this book read like the author wanted to tell us she has an MA. I thought a lot of the descriptions were just clunky and overused, which may have been on purpose to relate to the story, but it didn’t elevate my reading experience. This book can be read as a psychotic break, or as a stream of consciousness, but I didn’t feel particularly horrified or weirded out by anything. I expected it to be more outlandish based on reviews I had seen. But then again, I do read quite a bit of bizarre fiction, so I might just have a high threshold.

The atmosphere is engaging and the story reads quickly. I was t particularly horrified or wowed by it in general, but I think the science behind why things were happening is very clever. I enjoy the authors writing style of course.

This book was brutal but compelling. I liKed seeing the train of thoughts Polo had, and how unlikable he was as a character. You feel sorry for and despise him the entire time. An interesting critique of machismoism that I think works well for international audiences.
Graphic: Gun violence, Misogyny, Rape, Sexual assault, Sexual violence, Blood, Murder
I can’t deal with the 500+ more pages of tripe this book is going to be. I didn’t realize I could be made NOT to care about Arthurian legends.
The main character is really annoying and I’m no longer willing to put up with her.
