First Impressions
Bone Crossed is the fourth installment in the "Mercy Thompson" series and this is where we get a continuation of the story between Adam and Mercy, Mercy has decided to embrace Adam as her mate and working on adapting to working with the pack, but there are other factors that are coming into play that will put her life in danger by the vampires and other threats she won't imagine will happen. I really had a good time with this one, I do wish that was a bit more romance in these books, I understand it's UF but I just need a little bit more which is why these books probably won't get five stars from me. But my favorite moments from this book are whenever this couple is together. It has some great plot developments and once you really get into it, it will keep you engaged.

First Line
I stared at my reflection in the mirror.

The Main Protagonists
 The Hero: Adam
 The Heroine: Mercy

Summary
Adam is the alpha of his pack and is working on cementing his relationship with Mercy, a blue-collar heroine who works as a mechanic and is a coyote shifter. Mercy and Adam are in the beginnings of their relationship as mates and learning to adapt to new circumstances and threats. But when the vampires make a comeback for Mercy and want to destroy her, and Adam is in delicate negotiations, and Mercy will be brought into some political divisions within the vampire clan and a secret enemy that none of them will see coming...

What I Loved
The plot is the BEST part of this book. Although I do love the characters that come into play with this one here. But I really love the way that this author develops the plots. It just has such great build up to it and the dynamics as the characters get involved just balances it out so well. I loved seeing the moments with Adam and Mercy as they attempt to "date" lol I absolutely was endeared by their moments and the way that Mercy is all in for Adam. Adam is very patient with Mercy and respectful of who she is and what drives her. He doesn't get overbearing and I really admire that. The villain in this book was so creepy and made such a good villain, especially for this time of year. I honestly wasn't sure how he would be defeated but it ended up in a way that worked.

What I Struggled With
This book was a bit slower than some of the previous books. So this book took me almost a week to read it, unfortunately. This surprised me but since I had this is in audio and my eyes have really been struggling reading this week, just been super strained, I just wasn't that motivated to push through it. But once I got almost halfway I just didn't want to put it down. It just took a while to get to that point. Also as much as I love these two I just want them to have more moments together or working together on threats, and not being separated so much.

Narration
I really enjoy this narrator, it can start out slow, but she does a great job doing the voice for Mercy especially. She pulls you into the story just right.

Overall View
Bone Crossed was a thrilling installment that brings together the tenacity, the grit, and the raw love that is building between Adam and Mercy. It is a novel to knock a brutal punch of shocks and delights all the way through.

Steam/Spice Explanations

Simmering cup of tea---soft warm touches and light intimacy
Warmin' by the fire- a medium level of sexual tension, a balance of sexual and emotional intimacy, lighter on the details in the sexual moments.
Steamin' up the room -the sexual content is more explicit in the language and tone, heavier amount of sexual scenes.
Blazing fire to the building-The prime focus is the sex scenes, scorching hot, and could burn one. Less focus on the emotional intimacy to the relationship.

 My Review:

This was a really interesting short story from this author. I will be honest, I found it a bit meh and am probably a bit too generous in my rating. I don't mind novellas, but I just didn't feel this connection or this relationship or even the characters much. It just didn't really work for me that much. It wasn't horrible and I liked the connection to the de Wolfe books, however, this story was bland and boring. And of course the heroine had to be some kickass heroine, can she never write a soft FMC? LOL

The romance between these two absolutely did nothing for me though. I didn't feel the connection at all and it felt so passive and unmoving. Not something I am used to with this author, normally she writes really good relationships even if they are novellas, but this was I think felt like there wasn't any oomph in it to make any type of difference at all. I did love the history and myths behind this story though.

Overall not one I would recommend from this author.

 My Review:

Take was such a fun quick read and exactly what I needed. This is what I like about Anna Hackett, when I need to get through a book quickly, she truly delivers. And I saw this cover and I was intrigued. From the moment that I started reading this one, I was completely hooked. I loved their meet cute and even though this was last in a series, I didn't experience an issue on it. It only made me intrigued to read the other siblings books. This is a story that sucks you in pretty quickly. This has a good blend of elements to it that just seemed to really work for me. I really adored the way that this story built and the combination of tropes that is implemented. We see some great bonds of family between the brothers and I truly adored seeing that within this story. Our hero is a protective warrior, he runs a security service and when our heroine finds herself in danger, he helps protect her from enemies that want to take away her work and project. Reath was so delightful and I loved how firm he was with Frankie. She is a bit obsessive with her science stuff though, I just wanted to tell her to chill out lol You life is kinda in danger, maybe act the part. But if you love STEM heroines, than she is definitely one for you.

Overall I had a fun time with Heath and Frankie and can't wait to explore of this series here.

 My Review:

This book was my least favorite of the series even more than book 2 which I really struggled with for certain things. But this book I just didn't care that much about this couple until the third act lol I didn't vibe with the heroine, the hero was a bit lackluster for me and I didn't like some the ways the heroine abuses the hero. I am not a fan of heroines physically abusing the hero just because they feel guilty or ashamed of their own actions. Its very toxic behavior. While I do get easily drawn into this world from this author, she has some issues with her writing that can be very problematic at times. I also never really understood why these two were so antagonistic with each other. The story doesn't really get good until like the last 70% percent. I really did like the third act for the most part. I think the one element I wish had been done was the plot with Rafael was a bit better written. I did find many aspects to this book intriguing at times, but the pacing was so dull lol I just skimmed through most of this book. I just wasn't that invested and just reading it to finish off the series.

I do want to read Nero's book and all but I am going to wait on it a bit. I need a break from this author.

 My Review:

Take My Dare follows after the "Steal My Heart" Novella, they are adjusting to their son being almost a year old, and living within their happy ending and learning to be a family and find time for themselves as a couple. I absolutely adored the masquerade party and the hero making a game out of it for them. It had such a sexy feel to it. But then we also get a good plot with someone trying to blackmail Sylvia and how they respond to this threat and what teamwork is implemented as they work together and I just loved the unity that they have together. This is one of the aspects to this couple which makes them such a power couple. And we do get a fun scene with all the Stark couples coming together and man I am so tempted to reread these books lol but I am so behind on this author's books, that I need to catch up. This is a shorter book, a novella, but I wouldn't have minded if this one had been full length.

 My Review:

This was such a charming novella and its free on J.Kenner's website. I loved getting this glimpse into Jackson and Sylvia. They were so charming to get back to and I had forgotten how much I loved these two together. There is something so fun about the Stark world that this author has created. I really loved the way that this book developed and we also see such fascinating blend of heart and emotion. This novella is mostly surrounding Sylvia being pregnant, and some struggles they have as a family with some complications happening there. It had so much heart and deep emotion and if you love getting these HEA glimpses that give you all the feels, then I highly recommend it.

I immediately jumped into this book because it has one of my all time favorite tropes, and it just sucked me into the story. I will be honest, I will put off a bit from this heroine at first, she definitely isn't the type of heroine that I will normally resonate with, but surprisingly she was written decently in this book and I actually grew to like her at least until the ending and then yeah that view dropped because of how the grovel was handled. This is why I don't like grovels, it was just too much in having the hero on his knees, just turned me off and it turned a 4.5 rating to 4 because of it. I really was intrigued by the way the romance developed though. I had such a fun time with these two interactions and how they just come together in this one here. The way that the hero courts the heroine and doesn't get put off by her efforts, but only seems to be more excited when she makes certain attempts to put him off was delightful. And the moment when they just "click" together was perfection. I wasn't a fan of some aspects of the third act, even knowing Nero has a book, it just was very bittersweet and would have preferred a ending that felt a bit more satisfying than what is received.

Overall this was a solid win of a book, not a perfect finale of this series, but entertaining and endearing in some captivating ways!

 My Review:

I am going to keep this a bit shorter than I would have wanted. Now if I had actually enjoyed this book I would do a full length review but alas, I just didn't enjoy this one like I wanted to to be honest. There was just something that was so off about this book. Now keep in mind I absolutely LOVED the first book. So this one was just a bit of a disappointment. It had a great premise, and it started out really good. But then the pacing went way off, super super from the 30-65% of the story, the heroine became such a brat, very immature, and just rubbed me the wrong way. And there is a scene where she really shows an abusive side. And quite frankly, needed to do a better grovel than she did The hero I was totally fine with all the way through actually. And once you get to 65% that is where the story really picks up plot wise and I was really happy with how it was all resolved.

I am sure that this book will work for some readers though, it just didn't quite work for me. And while I still plan on reading more from this author, I might take some time before picking up book three.

Just not in the right mindset to enjoy this book. So I will come back to it sometime later.

 My Review:

Rating 4.5 Blossoms

This was such a wonderful book and I had such a fun time with it. Of course, its not a story you want to take too seriously, but it was loads of laughs and an interesting dynamic and a big PLUS for marriage in trouble. I was really intrigued by this story. And even though it wasn't perfect, I really enjoyed seeing these characters really learn to take accountability for the mistakes they both make and learn to value what marriage and love is all about. I really appreciated seeing how the grandparents got involved in all of this and seriously the grandfather is my personal favorite because he really does a good talking to to them individually and I love how he speaks it real with them and show them what they need to do to really get their marriage back on track. There are aspects of the culture that are written here that will not be for everyone, especially if you are super feminist leaning. This is a lifestyle that is more feminine and traditional in nature, but as someone that loved the more traditional aspects, I really appreciated what this author brings to the table. The romance was really beautiful once these two got past their ego's. lol They both make mistakes so it was good to see that they realize their mistakes and work on their marriage and reconnecting. Very poignant and with fun laughs along the way.
