In The Mane Event we have two stories: Christmas Pride and Shaw's Tail. Both are delicious stories. In Christmas Pride it begins with Dez McDermott, a NYPD cop, meets up with a old childhood friend when she investigates a murder. Mace Llewellyn, fell in love with Dez when they were fourteen years old, but then she and her family left for the big city and he never saw her until now. Mace is determined to not let Dez go again. He begins a hearty courtship without letting Dez know his true feelings or his plan on keeping her as his mate. But he holds a secret she knows nothing about, that he is a pride lion with a full mane and tail. Will Dez accept him and the love he has for her or reject him?
In Shaw's Tail, Brendan Shaw is injured and is running a shifter fever. Ronnie Lee Reed is part of a wolf pack, best friend to the Alpha female Sissy Mae. She is called upon to protect Brendan and watch out for him. But he has the fever, which means he tends to shift often and is highly sexually aware--way more than usual. So on Christmas Eve, Ronnie is busy protecting Brendan and keeping his lion from dancing the mamba on a human's front lawn. Ronnie is a wild child, she is afraid of commitment and settling down and taking her kids to summer camps and soccer. She wants to be free and make her own decisions and not be tied down. But sometimes love gets in the way.
The Mane Event was so delicious and fun and sexy! It really surprised me that I loved both stories. What really surprised me was how much depth both stories have. Normally for novella's, there is always a feeling of something lacking, however, Shelly Laurenston has shocked me in such a fun way. Both stories are connected to each other. I loved all four characters and the side characters that are involved. I loved these two lion males---boy were they fun. They tend to be crazy and wildly fun but think too much sometimes. Unlike the wolf packs, Lions are very different. Most of the time lions are called upon to breed for cubs and are treated like kings.
In the first story we have Dez who is human and Mac a lion pride shifter. Quite a unique mix, a southerner and a gal from the Bronx. Both have tempers and they tend to run high at odd times. But boy were they lively and fun together. In the second tail Brendan and Ronnie are quite intense. Each of them have different plans for the relationship. Brendan is wanting permanence and Ronnie is just out looking for some fun and play for a short time. Then we get some added bonus from Brendan's siblings, his twin sister and younger brother. Then of course we get more from Ronnie's best friend Sissy Mae who loves to mess with people's minds.
Both stories were full of fun drama, sexy interactions and some wildly entertaining moments. I can't wait to read more of this series.
I really love the narrator here, Charlotte Kane. She is fabulous and does great with the accents---her use of character inflections make the story come alive. Love the way she portrays the various emotions and settings. She displays the humor and sensuality in such a delightful way.
The Mane Event is a thrilling and exciting beginning to the Pride series. Its playful, witty, sensual and lots of fun in and out of bed. Love seeing both of these couples together and having a introduction to the Pride series.

Eden Bankcroft Kew, on the day of her wedding, so overhears a conversation that her fiancée has with his "mistress" and how he is only marrying her for her fortune. Archer makes her laugh and even though he is a cowboy, she finds him irresistible but she knows that she has to figure things out for herself. But follows him to Brightwater to build a new life for herself...to have a fresh start. But her past may ruin her before she has a chance to build something wonderful in Brightwater and with the man she has fallen heads over heels with. Can love truly overcome scandal and an enemy?
Archer Kane, is the one brother that his grandmother is gearing up to take over the ranch, if Archer will stop avoiding his responsibilities to himself and the family. Archer and his two brothers lost their parents when they were young, and they were raised by their grandmother. His grandmother took over running the ranch after losing her husband after five years of marriage. She takes control and has had to be the leader since she was in her twenties. Archer is a bit wild and untamed, enjoys a life of drinking and too many women. When he wakes up with three women in his bed and not remembering a thing. Archer realizes this is not what he wants in his life. His plan is to head back home, and back to his duties to the ranch and to his grandmother. Archer is charismatic, fun and is pretty sexual. But he also wants more in his life and goes after it. He mans up to his past. It was interesting seeing Archer turn his life around and we that certain qualities have always been in Archer, he just hides it real well. Love how sweet he is with Eden.
Eden made a promise to her dying mother, that she would marry and carry on the prestige of the family name. So she agrees to marry a man her mother picked out for her. She puts her heart and soul into the relationship but then when she learns the truth about her fiancee and how he has been playing her, she takes a new course on life. Eden, upon meeting Archer, moves to Brightwater. A small town in California, but is just right for what Eden needs. But Eden needs to decide what to do. She has quite a fortune but she wants to do something fun and meaningful and help the community. So she decides to open up a coffee and bakery shop. Baking is her passion and she wants to share that with these small town folks who live a simple life. Eden is sweet and kind, stands on her own feet. I really liked her character because of how easy I could relate with her.
Right Wrong Guy is a story that takes us from the big city to a small rural town where we discover love and committment in ways we dont expect. When we first meet these two, we see their lives before they "meet up" and boy both of them are wanting to make changes in life. Then they bump into each other at a coffee shop. We see how right they are for each other. They have chemistry and hit it off in their personalities pretty quick---in just one interaction. But both Eden and Archer know it's the wrong time for them. But then Eden takes a leap of faith and asks Archer for a ride to Brightwater. She has a friend that lives there and it seems like the perfect place to lay low for a while until she decides what to do after fleeing her wedding. Archer is intrigued and spell bound by Eden, he wants her but he is also consumed by her. He just can't get enough and wants more. But Eden wants time, she has heard plenty of stories about Archer's sexual adventures and after being hurt, she doesn't want to jump into the fire of another failed relationship. But Archer is determined to prove to Eden he will wait for however long it takes to show that he truly cares for her in a real and long term way.
This is a story that I fell instantly for. Now I bought this book months ago and I thank Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook for getting this book. But then this week I realized I really wanted to read this. Especially with the third book just becoming released, I wanted to see what I thought of this author before I read her. And boy was I blown away. Before I realized it the book was over, I just was so consumed by this story I didn't even realize how fast I was turning the pages. This was a sweet and passionate love story that swept me away into the heart of it.
The emotions that this book conveys was so real and what a fantastic story teller this author is. She pulls the reader right into it, and you get locked away into the plot with the emotions vivid and the story that comes alive. This is a romance that is developed with two people who may seem wrong at first but end up being perfectly right. It's about taking that leap of faith and hitting the treasure chest. I love the development of the plot and seeing what holds these two together when conflict erupts. LOVED EVERY MOMENT!!
What a gorgeous cover....one of my favorites of the year. Its sweet and romantic and you can get lost in it. Love the kiss and the pose here, as if these two can't get enough of each other.
Right Wrong Guy is a stimulating romance that is lighthearted, fun and tender----one of the best romances this year!! You can't go wrong with Lia Riley as the story teller. A Love story that is packed with growth, passion and a love worth fighting for.

This was such a charming Holiday themed story. What we have here is a bit of "exchanged student" theme...kinda. Two friends that meet through pinterest of all places, keep contact with each other through email. Our heroine wants a taste of Christmas which she has never had Her younger brother died when she was young on Christmas and ever since her parents have avoided celebrating it. But Gabi Preston wants everything that comes with the celebrating of Christmas. The caroling, finding the perfect Christmas tree, the music, and the happy celebrations, the snow and sledding and much more. Her friend wants to get away from Twilight and its small town charm and the stress of the holidays. She wants to relax in the big city. So they decide to switch places. But upon arriving, Gabi is surrounded by Joe, her friends over protective brother who wants to know where his sister is and why she isn't in Twilight and exactly where he can find her. OH boy, these two. Things start off to a rocky start for them. They have great chemistry with each other, but they have only two weeks. So nothing can be permanenet. As they end up spending the time celebrating and connecting. I was completely won over by reading this Christmas setting with a small town charm. I love reconnecting with previous characters from the series. All the fun cute clubs of various women in town. There was quite a bit of emotion, and brought me to tears when it came to Gabi and her brother. He is the reason she craves a Christmas experience, she wants to honor him and I really liked that about this story. Having a strong family connections that come into play in the story. Joe is such a swoon worthy hero. He is protective, strong and caring. The romance was steady but didn't take too long for some action to happen. They only have two weeks together, so when it feels right they embrace what they have together....trying to make every moment count. Emotionally provacative and a lightly sensual romance that builds into a stunning love story!! BEAUTIFULLY SPUN ROMANCE!!!

Saidh, was raised by some rowdy brothers, but she can hunt and ride with the best of them. When she hears that her cousin Fenella's fourth husband has been killed, Saidh goes to her cousin. Saidh is hiding a secret, a secret that has tied Saidh with her cousin for years. A secret that if it was revealed, would make Fenalla the prime suspect, and Saidh is pretty sure that Fenella is innocent. When she arrives, she meets the new Laird Greer. The chemisty is powerful between Greer and Saidh. Greer makes Saidh feel like a woman with desire and passion. But with Greer and Saidh's desire building for each other, there is something foul afoot. And Greer wants to make sure that nothing will happen to Saidh. Saidh is a prime target of a killer, one that is out for her blood and by some miracle she has survived the attempts on her life. But there is more to this than just Saidh's life. Someone killed Fenella's husband, and the same killer is after Saidh. Only when Greer and Saidh work together can they solve the mystery and find a place to share their lives together...if her seven protective brothers don't kill the man she loves in the process first?
Greer MacDonnell, was not ready to be the new laird. And it wasn't a position he really wanted for himself but he was the one next in line for the position. So Greer tries to make the best of the position. When he arrives at his new home, there are some messes to clean up. Greer is honorable, hard-working, and dedicated. Greer does what is necessary despite what his lectures from his Squire about not following the right "procedures". But Greer and Alpin have a strong bond, so he takes it all in stride. What I admired most about Greer was what a perfect hero he is. He is a wonderful leader, respectful but firm. He see's all sides in a situation and doesn't judge instantly. He thinks and ponders before making a decision. Have to admire a man, that is patient and understanding in any given situation. He is caring and protective toward Saidh.
Saidh is one of those heroines that you meet and you know if she was real....you could be best friends for life. She has many facets to her character and I found her so refreshing. She is energetic and full of passion for life. I love her zestiness and her stubborn streak and boy how she handles her brothers. She has seven of them, and practically grew up as a tom boy. But she wins any tussle she has with them. Growing up with seven rowdy brothers....she definitely gets creative. I love the way she handles her eccentric cousin Fenella. Now Fenella isn't my favorite side character, but Saidh handles her well with grace and love. I love how she handles the situations she is dealt. And she tends to stretch the boundaries. *giggle* Can't get enough of her curiosity, her tendency to wear breeches while riding (smart lady), and can curse like a sailor. Saidh is also a sweet and kind heroine as well. She makes a perfect match for Greer.
The Highlander Takes A Bride is the third installment in the latest historical series by Lynsay Sands. The moment this came out, I clicked it and bought it. I will say that it took me some time to get to this book. I have no idea why, but I finally read it through my e-reader and couldn't get enough of it. What was most intriguing was seeing these two banter with one another. From their first meeting (Naked Greer swimming in the loch) and boy do sparks fly between these two. We also see quite a bit of depth to the story, and I loved seeing their story evolve in the way that it does.
Lynsay Sands is pure talent when it comes to writing romance. I found myself drawn into the story from the beginning, and I found myself captivated by every aspect that kept this story stimulating and packed with plenty of chemistry and action. We have a mystery that comes into play here, and boy this author kept me guessing. I honestly couldn't figure out who the culprit was, and just when I thought I had it, I was completely blown away by the secrets and dangerous aspects that come into play. There is a level of suspense and intrigue. The supporting characters are a riot and cause quite a bit of drama. But not too much, just enough to bring balance to the story. First we have Alpin, who is Greer's squire. And boy he is tenacious like a dog with a bone when it comes to the "rules". He doesn't understand why Greer and Saidh break them all the time. Its quite entertaining, and I love the jests and bantering between Alpine and Greer and Saidh. He almost acts like a scandalized virgin. Then we have the seven brothers....now these brothers are so dang hiliarous and really add the right level of humor to the story. They are way overprotective of Saidh, but they also tend to be a bit harsh in judgments. Which I found quite amusing. All seven brothers are you typical males....but boy I love how Saidh handles them. She knows exactly what weapons to use against them...and it works every single time.
The romance between Greer and Saidh is quite a compelling one. They have an easy going relationship. There isn't much angst at all, its more at easy and calm and I was hands down all for that. Because there is a conflict, and so I liked that they just flowed so well together while trying to solve a mystery. They have quite a bit of strong chemistry here, but there is also a close bond to each other on an emotional level. It is quite engaging to have a couple that works in harmony on every level. This is a highly fun romance that is packed with everything that made me fall madly in love with it. Can't wait to see what Sands comes up with next.
Such a beautiful romantic cover. I love the vivid colors used, and such a dramatic sensual pose.
The Highlander Takes A Bride is a highly engaging romance that takes you back in time to the highlands where Mystery, Intrigue, and Passion are at a high.
