Meh? I didn’t hate this but I didn’t love it, I think it was definitely good enough to read the next one but who knows how long it will be until that comes out.

I think book 1 left me more hooked but I did enjoy this one, just not quite as much.
I do think that the twist with Mr.Sterling was just not quite as good as it could’ve been but that was really the one thing that pulled me out.

I wanted this to be more than it was, the idea of a non-binary Eros was so interesting and we still spent the majority of the time in Psyche’s head instead.

This was such a nostalgic read. Wood’s writing evokes Rick Riordan to me, so it felt like I was a kid again and was fully enthralled in the story.
This is marketed as YA and is certainly written that way but it definitely has some darker moments, with multiple explicit murders as well as kidnappings happening in the story.
I did find it a little silly every once in a while to see that the writing was clearly from a British author when they chose to set it in California. For example they say mobile and he’s “in hospital” rather than “in the hospital.” Normally wouldn’t bother me at all but because of the California setting it pulled me out of the story a bit.
Last, I do think it was easy to predict who the ghoul was, but that didn’t leave me upset; it left me questioning why this person would want to do this

4/5
I was immediately taken in by the prologue but the time jump right after really wasn’t it, it took a second to get back into the book after that. Because of the time jumps, I don’t think I can give this a full 5/5, they were just confusing occasionally. Eventually you get used to it and by the end of the book I was ready to continue on in the series.

3.5ish for me
Lots of takes that this is the best book ever, or the most pretentious book ever… May I offer an in between take that there are certainly things Kingsolver does really well in this book and then others she doesn’t and therefore this is in the middle for me.
