I am not sure how I feel about this book. I started by giving it 4 stars, but I decided to bump it down to 3.5. It was good and I enjoyed reading the history of the Odd Sisters, but it just wasn't as entertaining as the rest of the series had been. Maybe I am just not as invested in the odd sisters as I am in the other villains since I love the original Disney stories and am very entertained by seeing them from other perspectives. But I did enjoy how it tied back to the other stories and even updated some of them even more.
I was worried that this book would be a bit of a letdown since it's the 5th in a series. But that was not the case at all!! I loved everything about this book! It spent most of the book giving the background of Gothel (instead of being more overall story-driven like the previous two books in the series). I thought it was very interesting to see Gothel's backstory because I honestly didn't know anything about her origin story. There were a lot of ties from her backstory to the Tangled movie. I thought that Gothel's backstory and character progression throughout this book was beautifully written from her being a child to where she ends up in Tangled.
And to top it off, the last few chapters were basically a hilarious retelling of Tangled from the witch's point of view and it was amazing!

This book was a bit difficult for me to get through. I liked it but a lot of the book felt kind of irrelevant to the story. But then I got to the end and it all made a lot more sense.
This book was amazing! The characters and story and everything was really well written. I also loved how stuff at the end tied back to stuff from the beginning and just really grew the story more. As I got to the middle I started getting a little bored (but I do that with every book I read since I get distracted) and once I picked it up again I could not put it down! I wasn’t even done with this book before I was like “I need to preorder iron flame now!”
This book gave me serious "one more chapter" syndrome. I got the kindle edition from Libby and when I was about 1/2 way done, I bought the hardcover for myself because I was loving it so much. I even pre-ordered the second one in hardcover! This book was a good blend of sci-fi, feminism, and a strong FMC who doesn't let anyone tell her what to do.
I remember reading this because there was a bunch of hype around it. I did really enjoy this book. It was well written and the ending was very impactful which I loved. I will definitely be re-reading this in the near future!
4.5 ⭐️
I bought this to read since it was a dark fantasy romance. I didn’t expect the twist on Cinderella and beauty and the beast kind of vibes that came up but I loved them. And I loved how the ending fit the whole plot of the book. It just made sense how the story progressed from start to finish and it was great. I can’t wait to read the next one!

Tom is so honest in this book. It was very interesting seeing his journey through all the movies and also after. Especially how different it was for him than others. It was real and raw and he tells it very well. I listened to the audiobook which is narrated by the author and it was very well read!

Plot or Character Driven:
Character
I feel like so much happened but at the same the story didn’t progress as much as the first book. It was more character development than plot development I guess. But the twist at the end definitely has me hooked for the next book!
