4.5 stars. Full of action, plot twists, and history; completely in my wheelhouse.

Wow. N.K. Jemisin is an incredible storyteller. Her ability to build a world completely original, yet eerily similar enough for you to relate to, is amazing. Although some parts of the book, plot-wise, seemed kinda convenient and contrived, I still thoroughly enjoyed how this world and its characters were revealed to us slowly and masterfully. Ugh. Jemisin is just one of my favorite SFF writers.

Meh, it was fine. The characters weren’t very well-developed, and the plot was so-so. It coulda been a lot better. Entertaining enough to finish, but not good enough to recommend.

3.5 stars. Very cute and extremely funny! I was entertained the whole way through. Gavin kinda annoyed me sometimes but I think I just need to accept some tropes of the romance genre.

3.75 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed this story! Scenes that were steamy enough to put the book in the freezer afterwards, plus well developed characters and a plot with substance. I really liked the little plot twist at the end.
