Fire Touched is the ninth book in the Mercy Thompson series and this series only goes from strength to strength. Fire Touched follows on from Night Broken and the battle against Christy's stalker the Volcano God . This instalment touches on the fallout of the events of the previous book Joel being a fiery tibecina dog, the pack's reaction to Mercy bringing in another pack member (Joel the volcano God's anchor) without permission and the pack's general attitude to Mercy . The other aspect that I really liked about this book was the build up of Mercy's relationship with Bran, who has been an ever-present but physically elusive figure throughout this whole series Bran sending Baba Yaga to help them and not really abandoning Mercy because he cares so goddamn much, man I love Bran .
Patricia Briggs continues to build this fantastic and strong relationship between Adam and Mercy and she focuses on their love, their belief in one and other and their commitment to protecting those around them. One of the reasons I love the Mercy Thompson series so much is because Briggs doesn't add unnecessary drama and angst to their relationship. We see two adults who believe and trust in each other, who build a realistic relationship and have lots of friends and family they care about.
The main reason I love this series is because of Mercy. Time and time again she shows herself to be an incredible heroine. A walker, who takes the form of coyote. She's physically weaker than werewolves, fae and vampires. She doesn't have all the magic and powers of fae and vampires. However, she stands up for what she believes in, she's headstrong and she doesn't take no for an answer. There are very few urban-fantasy/paranormal series where I don't see the MC subsumed by her love or aren't dominated by kick-ass men. This is one of those fantastic series that focuses on the action, the adrenaline and the saving of friends and family.
For me the Mercy Thompson series has only gone from strength to strength. This is now my favourite series I read and considering over the last three weeks I've barely stopped to read another book in my re-read of the series I think that's a pretty good advocate for the series as it's not often I can read a whole series straight up. The other positive is that I think this series has only got stronger, not weaker which is one of my biggest gripes with many long UF/PR series. Overall another fantastic read and easily one of my favourite books to get lost in.

Ahh Mercy Thompson and witches. Damn, now I've ran out of new Mercy Thompson books to read for a long time...
Important messages, made me think a lot about my own privilege and whiteness in ways I hadn't thought about which was good.
3.5 stars
I enjoyed this book, it was fun and flirty but it did feel dated.

I was actually pretty disappointed in this book. Bobby Tom Denton was literally the worst, misogynist and self-centred love interest I've ever read. By the end of the book, I was annoyed with him so much and I just did not like the ending.
Gracie was a really good character, I liked the honesty with herself and her attitude.
Don't get me wrong, there were some pretty good bits to this book, but I just found Bobby Denton's attitude grating by the end.
The first book was so much fun, sadly this one was not.

The Wall of Winnipeg and Me surprised me on many levels and I absolutely fell head over heels in love with Van and Aiden. I understand entirely why people have proclaimed Mariana Zapata the queen of slow-burn romances and I would say arguably this is one her strongest books (having now read three of them following this).
The premise of the book is that Vanessa is the assistant to the towering hulk, and legendary football player, Aiden. Who is grumpy, quiet and brooding and rarely has a nice word to say to her. Except then she decides she wants to quit her job and then entirely unexpectedly Aiden shows up at her house and he makes her an offer she cannot refuse.
The plot line is nowhere near original and I feel like I have seen a hundred different rip offs/spins off in the romance world of this kind of story. However, none of them had the slow-burn and the smolder that Zapata's storyline had. She developed both of her MCs really well, with Aiden and Vanessa growing over the story (and at a hefty 670 pages, there's a lot of growing to do!). I also really enjoyed that Zapata didn't try to institute any really obvious fake drama and everything felt easy and flowing from one chapter to the next as she continued to develop the relationship with Vanessa and Aiden.
Despite this book being over 670 pages, I sat down and read it in basically one sitting and I wasn't able to put it down. This book is not perfect, but it is enjoyable and lots of fun along the way. I would recommend it to any romance fans, any sports-romance fans especially and just anyone looking for a fun contemporary read!
