part 1 was a slog to get through, but i’m glad i persevered. once the real adventure started, i was invested. i appreciated how every character was flawed but also relatable. at the end, i wanted an epilogue of like a year later, though. i didnt feel like i got enough closure
emotional fast-paced
Diverse cast of characters: Yes

i liked the concept and the art, but it was hard to keep up with all the side characters. the end was sweet, but i was confused and not invested for most of it.

informative medium-paced

i found the pacing to be kind of weird. for instance, i would have liked for dallek to spend more time on the elections themselves. i really enjoyed the epilogue, though, and i felt like he did a good job of objectivity in his writing.
emotional

i enjoyed the unique conflicts, but i didnt love the characters’ relationship. like i couldn’t really feel their chemistry. and the ending felt like it was missing something. also the title doesn’t really apply to the book😭

i really appreciated the unique premise of this! the characters were well developed, but i had some trouble connecting with them

Strong character development: Complicated

i really adored both of these characters, but their arcs didn’t feel totally complete at the end of the book

this was one of my most anticipated reads of 2024, and it wasnt quite as perfect as i thought it would be, but it was still pretty perfect

this book was fun, even though it took me until i was about 50% in to really truly care about what was happening. dax and gemma are very good together, and gemma made the right decision :)
