this was a solid read. i liked the caretaking and the forced proximity. the conflict (between the couple) wasn’t my fav, but it wasnt bad

thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an arc!!
the female british serial killer definitely reminded me of how to kill your family, which i didnt love. for the first half, i was liking this more than that, but it went downhill in the second half. i liked her being a vigilante, but i didnt really like it when she started killing people who didnt deserve it! like i dont think the guy who followed her was evil, and obvi neither was dave the first plot twist was good, though. it was sad but compelling. i didnt like the ending. i wish the murders would have been unsolved. i did not like that they blamed james. i wish there couldve been a romance between them where he forgave her and they ended up together after she stopped killing. james didnt deserve it, and i wouldve felt better if he didnt end up being framed. my rating would have been a lot higher if the end was different

i agree with avasromancebooks on youtube that this sci fi reads like a fantasy. i differ from ava, though, in that i did not really enjoy this, mostly because of the characters. i think the mmc should have apologized for how he acted in the beginning, i think he should have been more respectful of her culture, and i think he should have done more to help the humans. it rubbed me the wrong way how they spoke about the ghertun. like i know they were evil but it still gave me the ick idk. the language was also kinda hard to follow imo. i did like how she saved herself in the end, and the writing wasn’t bad, so i would try more zoey draven to see if i like some of her other characters more.

some of the dialogue was SUPER cringe, and i didnt like how rich reese’s family was. it made me uncomfortable. i hate reading about super rich ppl. i especially hated that they were rich from oil; it just added to how unethical it was. their relationship was sweet, though, and the spice was good

some bookstagrammers that i follow loved this, but alas, i did not. i was hoping for a contemporary romance with historical vibes. i did not get that. sometimes the dialogue felt unrealistic, and there were too many similes and metaphors in the writing. like every other sentence was a simile or metaphor. i also didnt really care for the open door scenes. and sometimes, miscommunication is okay, but in this, it bugged me. they could have compromised way earlier if they just TALKED to each other.
