this book was not as good as i expected it to be, and it was a bit too nihilistic for my taste. the plot twist was kinda interesting, but i didnt love how it played out. it wouldve been nice to get an additional chapter from graces pov. and

i lowkey wanted her to get some of the money and was kinda mad that she put all that work into killing everybody just to not get any $$

a couple of parts of this book were millennial cringe, and i feel like the cover and the title and the synopsis are misleading, but it is still a good book, despite tessa’s attempt to literally sabotage her own main character 😭😭😭

the first half of this book was good but it all went downhill. jase should have been more upset with sam, and sam should have been more upset with her mother. by the end, jase and sam barely talked. their relationship felt pointless. they should have been communicating more, especially considering their situations. and the end sucked so bad. no closure. SO. MANY. unanswered questions. mr. garrett? jase’s college? nan? like wtf. im so mad. 

this was so cute and sweet. i just wish they had been a tad more affectionate + the gifts had been a lil different bc i just love a good extravagant yet meaningful gift. but overall this was so sweet from beth oleary. 

i LOVED the first 75% of this book, like i was ready to give it like 4.5 stars, but i wasnt crazy about the end. it just made poppy so…pathetic.

having sex with the person who ruined ur life and killed the person u loved most in the world??? really girl??? and hawke/casse should have explained a little more. i understand leaving the reader hanging a bit, but the amount of questions i was left with just made me ANGRY. it really ruined it for me and made me not want to continue with the series. i dont want someone who had the closest thing poppy ever had to a father murdered to be redeemed in the next books!!!!

this is a beautiful & sweet little story. the illustrations + the narration is great💗

this was just a regular shitty ya book. i didnt like any of the characters, except grayson a little bit. i will read the second one bc i wanna know what happens but i would literally not even care if bad things happened to all the characters. i just dislike them so much. 

i REALLY enjoyed this. it was super cute. i just wish they would have talked about when they met at college, and there was a tiny bit more of vivi and rhys’ personalities, and an EPILOGUE!!!! i wanna know what happened to their stores!!! they are so cute together and i loved the plot and the baby witches and UGH

this book was a slow start and it’s not what i usually read, but i enjoyed it. it was actually pretty scary. it made me both angry and sad and i felt like the feminist themes at the end weren’t developed well enough, but the ending was nice. 

i have the same criticism for this that i had for emily henry’s other book: it should have been dual pov. that would have made it so much better. it would have made gus’ character sooooo much better and more cohesive. also januarys pov didnt really develop her attraction to him. she was just all of a sudden into him. and the whole “nemesis” thing was a little dramatic. however, i have to give this book a lot of credit because i have not cried in nearly 3 months, even though i usually cry a lot, and this book made me cry. it actually felt very cathartic. thank you, emily henry

update: 1 yr later. i literally have not stopped thinking about this book since i read it. i am changing my rating to 5 stars. i still wish it had gus’ pov, but this book is just perfectly written otherwise
