Zetta Elliott’s post on this book is interesting and enlightening, and highlights some of its issues. Dear Martin has some important stuff too say but it’s too rushed and jumbled to really say them, and it makes some pretty baffling choices (Jared suddenly utterly redeemed? Justyce suddenly deciding to join a gang and then completely changing his mind, all over the course of about five pages?). In terms of plotting and characterization it just wasn’t very strong.
