Probably closer to a 4.5.
When I first started reading this book, I honestly didn't expect to fall completely in love with all three of the characters. They were distinct and well fleshed out and literal perfection. I honestly think this is a book that got better as it went on. It even had me a little misty eyed at certain parts (especially as someone who entered the poly scene not long ago).
I do think the world building could have been fleshed out a bit more, but (given that the ending seems to be setting us up for a sequel) I'm really hoping we see more of that in the sequel.
This will be a book that I recommend and tell people about every chance I get because it was so good.

Good ending. Middle dragged. Great beginning. Wish it relied less on some of the stereotypes.

I adore the stories that Hafsah can tell so much. I don't feel this hit quite as well as We Hunt the Flame did and almost like the author was still trying to find her footing at the beginning of this book. BUT there were also many areas where it was obvious the author had grown as a writer which was amazing to see.
This main character was hard to relate to because she didn't want to open up which is necessary given the plot line and how it develops, but it left me craving Flick and Jinn's point of view over Arthie's.
I ADORE the way she wrote the heist playing out on screen at the end. But I resent the way she broke my heart in multiple different ways. I cannot wait to see where this is going next.

This book started out so fun that I was really excited to read it but it quickly went downhill and it didn't give me the witchy fall vibes I was hoping for.

This story felt a little rushed and I would like to see what it could have become if it was longer because I feel like it explored some interesting themes.

What a great dark twist on Johnny Appleseed. It was such a great haunting story, though I would pause to call it horror. Gothic maybe? Either way the author did a great job putting a twist on a classic tall tale. I would like to have seen some more line editing because there were things that felt really repetitive.
For as short as the story was, the plot itself felt to move kind of slower than I had anticipated. I found myself much more invested in Johnny's story than Catalina's and I wish there had been more drive or something to her story to make it more compelling than Johnny's.
