I lowkey loved this??
Full of revenge, death, murder, suicide, this play really stayed true to it's name.

"You have witchcraft in your lips."
I have noticed that I only really enjoy Shakespeare's tragedies. His war/history plays aren't for me unfortunately. I was often bored with the politics. I will say, that the love scene at the end was beautiful.

'the crucible' is a party fictionalised play critiquing puritan theocracy during the salem witch trials
i know this play was written as a response to mccarthyism (a period of political prosecution of left-wing supporters in the usa in the 1900s), and the commentary on mass hysteria, mob mentalities, alongside the overall pessimistic tone worked well for that. however, i found there was a LOT to be desired in terms of female characters
still, interesting ideas on religious corruption, the hypocrisy of the church/organised religions, and the american political landscape of the time
