I didn’t want to give this book a bad rating because it’s not necessarily a bad book, it just wasn’t my cup of tea. I was expecting it to be funnier and about more than his stand up career. But Martin goes into excruciating detail about his different sets and how he developed his act. I just didn’t find it that interesting.
I probably won’t read the next one. While the characters were good, the mystery was not. Agatha Christie’s protagonists solved the mystery rather than just bumbling about and stumbling upon a person holding you at gunpoint.
I listened to the audio version of this book and it did not particularly hold my attention, likely because the characters are just not memorable. If I had the book in my hands, I would constantly be flipping back to see who Beaton is talking about. On top of that, Agatha Raisin is just not a great character, she is a very rude version of Miss Marple. I didn’t want to root for her at all in this book.
