An engaging and fast-paced book about magic, heritage, love and prejudice set against the backdrop of a dragon-ruled kingdom that is threatened from without and within. Book two couldn’t come soon enough!

An excellent cozy. The character and relationship development of the core cast is phenomenal and the new characters are introduced in compelling fashion. This series never disappoints.

It would have been better if the author hadn’t used the problematic ‘x is my spirit animal’. Spirit animals are sacred to many cultures and this popular appropriation is lazy and offensive.

I love Davis’ writing style. We get some beautiful, fleshed out backstory with murders and thefts old and new alike. Compelling characters include an agoraphobic butler, a desperate realtor and a sinister collector. Like Davis’ other series, this one is a definite recommend.

Ellery Adams does it again with another carefully crafted cozy. There is so much deliberate and delicate storytelling in this book and she addresses trauma in such a respectful way. I can’t sing Adams’ praises high enough. If you prefer cozies with more depth and world building than is typically found, you’ll adore this series.

This holiday mystery introduces some intriguing new characters, both human and canine. Old wounds are reopened and fresh corpses are found. A perfect book for a cold blustery day.

I really enjoyed this. It’s a solid start to a cozy series, building a nice foundation for later books. I like the big family dynamic and the use of history and old secrets.
