The Marrow Thieves is an incredibly well-crafted story that shows non-Indigenous Canadians the harm that we have caused and continue to cause through systemic racism. The inter-generational trauma of residential schools, the loss of language and culture, the use of First Nations’ land and bodies: this has all happened before and it’s happening now. As people who benefit from colonialism, it’s our duty to call for change, to work towards reconciliation and to make sure that Indigenous Lives Matter. We cannot let The Marrow Thieves become our future.
This is Angie Thomas’ first novel! She perfectly captured this moment in time, in American society and the complexities of life for black people in the States. There are authors who have been writing for 40 years who will never write such a brilliant, timely and necessary book.
This cozy has a strong mystery and some really good twists that will add to the series’ backstory.
This book is so good. It’s full of unpredictable twists and turns and revelations. I had no idea what was coming next and I absolutely loved it.
From the emotional highs and lows of a wedding and the introduction to Carlos’ son to Lance’s family drama and undercover double-crossing, the latest entry in Ellie Alexander’s cozy series is a fun and fast-paced read.
I really like some of the characters in this series but it’s been feeling a bit flat for me. I’m still not giving up on it, though.
