This book reminded me a lot of Practical Magic and The Rules of Magic. It creates a beautiful yet dangerous atmosphere and fills it with love, revenge, innocence and betrayal. It’s a very romantic, fanciful read that I think Alice Hoffman fans would really enjoy.
This is a really creepy little book that makes me want to not sleep for a week. Is it Silence of the Lambs for teens? No, because Silence of the Lambs had a lot of subplots and directions and complexities and this book is pretty straightforward with one storyline and no deviation or exploration. That’s not a bad thing, but the only thing it has in common with Silence of the Lambs is that there’s a girl stuck in a well. So it’s not Thomas Harris for Teens but it is really creepy and hard to put down.
I wanted to like this book but it’s so freaking implausible that I couldn’t buy into it. What kind of an alias is going by your middle and last name, both of which would make you easy to find? No WitSec, no plastic surgery, just hair dye? It seems so weak to me and the fact that Ellery is a cop and none of the other cops figured it out is beyond suspending disbelief. Nope.
I this this series has run its course for me. Not stimulating enough to keep me reading.
Badly written, cheesy as hell and the twist was disgusting. I’m reclaiming the time I spent reading this drivel.
