Really enjoyed the first volume of this space adventure about a doomed cargo ship that discovers some accounting irregularities.
The artwork is stunning and I like the world building a lot.
Initially had a hard time keeping track of the characters but I’ll sure that’ll improve.

I normally love an adventure book. This should have ticked all my boxes and it’s just dull. Technically dense in all the wrong spots.
I really enjoyed this Biography of the life of Virginia Hall, OSS operative for the French Resistance in World War II. Her life was almost beyond belief in terms of bravery, derring-do, and willingness to work any mission that would have helped the allied front. There’s a huge cast of characters and some of them definitely get muddled along the way. That’s more my unfamiliarity with the setting than anything.
Pretty decent YA book that takes place in quasi medieval Greece. I liked the backstory and belief system. The first half is a bit of a slog.
Couldn’t get in to this at all. Probably a me thing.
I read this as a lapsed Catholic and found it quite affirming. I read the Bible a few years ago cover to cover and found myself deeply disliking Paul's letters because at face value, they feel very demeaning to women. But context is everything. And even with whatever companion text I had at the time, the historiography of the letters did little to apologize Paul (lol) to a modern reader.
Barr reinterprets, almost semiotically, Paul's writings line by line and contrasts where his letters are divided in different versions of the Bible. The tonal shift is pretty remarkable.
As a feminist, everything she's saying to the reader is true, I know it, I don't particularly need to be affirmed of my worth as a woman by the Bible.
Much like modern political discourse, I know the people who will never pick up this book are the ones who would most benefit from its carefully researched message. I hope she changes some minds, I would have loved to have taken one of her classes.

I can’t believe it’s already been six years since these fires. This harrowing graphic novel is a memoir of the creator’s experience losing his own home to wildfire.
It’s a quick read and I enjoyed the inserts of other people’s fire stories. They really demonstrated just how arbitrary a disaster like wildfire is.

Not my favorite Mary Oliver I’ve ever read. Some rough selections to end this year.
This was an exhaustively researched look at the Whitman murders which occurred on UT campus in the 60s. I’d read a little bit about them. It’s horrifically sad.
