I read this for the "A Book That Cost You Less Than $5" part of my 2020 reading challenge. I still do not like this series. I find the best way to get through it is to skim the page for the actions, and ignore most of the words being said. The slang and teen-speak is painful and immature, I know teens don't actually speak like that. Also not a lot happened plot wise.

I read this for the "An Author You Previously Disliked" part of my 2020 reading challenge. This series isn't getting better, the plot is still weak and most of the book is the teens having ridiculous conversations and using dumbed-down phrases that you don't actually hear in real life.

This was a really interesting read. The String was twisted and it was nice never knowing who was involved and who to trust, but I feel like the book could have benefited from having deeper characters. I found I wasn't too concerned about who died or not because I hadn't had time to form a connection.

This book seemed really character based, because not a lot happened plot-wise. It felt it took place over the 4 days following the previous book, and they probably could have been merged.

This was a cute story about a dinosaur & his friend cleaning his room. The misadventures were simple, but I think children would appreciate them.

This is the second installment of The Fowl Twins, and I felt like it lacked a bit of the magic the first one had. I really enjoy the character of Beckett and his friendship with Whistleblower and I wish there was a bit more of them and a bit less of Myles. Myles appears to have all of the most annoying traits that Artemis had, and I hope he comes back in future books. The plot didn't really keep my attention, I felt like every time I put the book down I had to read back and figure out what was going on again since it was all over the place. Overall it was good, just not my favorite of the Fowl novels.

This was refreshing. A bit juvenile and predictable at times, but the characters were enjoyable and it was exactly what I was looking for. It was a simple YA fantasy adventure with enough humor and twists to keep it interesting.

In hindsight, I could have used this for my "written by a local author" reading challenge prompt, as I picked the book up at the Edmonton Comic Expo last year. I did end up skimming some of the book and game reviews, but I still loved how deeply Mike went into the history and sub-genres of steampunk. I'm a huge Gail Carriger fan so I loved how often her books were mentioned, and was thrilled to read about Punch Drunk Cabaret, who I have also seen live. I was also really impressed with the steampunk fashion section and enjoyed reading about the different Steam Cons and expo experiences.

This book was incredible. I wish I had saved it for my 2021 challenge because it fit a lot of the prompts. I really enjoyed the characters and the world building, and I'll definitely be picking up book 2. I did find it a bit more "adult" than other YA novels, not the entire thing but a few lines every few chapters were far from PG.

I read this for the "Snow" prompt of the 52 Book Club's December Mini Challenge. The book had a lot of potential, but for me it really missed the mark. A lot of it felt scattered and vague, and it was hard to follow what was happening sometimes.
