The Sun Does Shine: How I Found Life and Freedom on Death Row
Lara Love Hardin, Anthony Ray Hinton
I thought this book was incredible. Considering it was about a man wrongfully imprisoned and on death row for 30 years, it was actually quite light and very insightful.
I wasn't impressed by this book, I didn't love any of the characters or the writing, and the story felt patchy and impartial.
I was annoyed with Cheryl from the very beginning, and that never went away. She's lucky to be alive, she only survived from luck and the kindness of strangers. She made a bunch of bad decisions and I don't get why she's so revered.
I read this book in almost one sitting, I didn't exactly enjoy it cause it was fairly sad and mostly set in a hospital, but it was well written and it did end on a high note.
Felt a bit like I imagine Pretty Little Liars is, it was a decent mystery with not a lot given away, but I was unsatisfied with the ending.
While reading this book there were a few passages I enjoyed and that I thought would stick with me, but by the next chapter I couldn't remember what they were and overall this book was pretty unremarkable.
Partnered with National Geographic, Donna Jo Napoli put together a great collection of stories. The artwork was beautiful and the characters had a lot of personality.
I loved every second of this. I enjoyed the changes between 1958 and 2007, the different views on Cuban life, and the romance and mystery twisted in. I'm really looking forward to the next book on Beatriz.
This book was fantastic and definitely not what I expected. I loved the story and how devious the characters were. I thought it was great how we switched to Daphne's perspective half way through, and I could not put the book down.
I read this book for the "The First Book In A Trilogy" part of my 2018 reading challenge. The plot had a lot of potential, but I felt that the whole book fell short. I didn't feel involved in any of the characters, and the memories & dreams thrown into the current events made the writing feel choppy.
