I think while I was reading this, I kept trying to look for parallels to today's world as well as "a point". I was drastically trying to figure out if this was set in our world in the future. However, I now realize this book is timeless and without something that roots it to the reality of today. Therefore, the point is that while things start out simple and beautiful, this dystopian society which has seemed to eliminate poverty and need, is nonetheless still plagued with terrible issues. People are people and will do dumb things. The End.

It was cute, but you can definitely tell this is their first novel but would make a better screenplay, as you can see by the author's previous work.

I would totally read more by this author, however, to see how they improve.

I love the story. I appreciated the in-depth way that Lily deals with the various aspects of her identity. There were also parts in the book that dealt with three side characters in the story. It was really interesting to see how their relationship with Lily played out due to their own personal pasts. I enjoyed the simplicity yet beautiful prose of this book and I definitely would reread this novel.
