JUST A WASTE OF TIME. PLEASE DON'T READ THIS.
This book is my first ever BOOKTOK MADE ME READ books. And omfg I can't even know where to start with this one.
I just can't read this anymore. It's beyond boring. It's atrociously bland and stereotypical. After only five pages of the book, i concluded that the writing was worse than the featured Wattpad stories on the app. Like wtf. I'd love to quote HILLARIOUS passages but i just don't have the energy or the will power to go through that trash again.
I kept seeing the book pop up on booktok and it intrigues me (one because of the cover. Two because it was described as enemies to lovers AND FANTASY)
First and foremost, this book is definitely not fantasy. There might be some elements but it feels more like a paranormal romance than anything else. I LOATHE PARANORMAL ROMANCES. The book is NOT enemies to lovers. From the very first moment the MC encounters Hades she is consumed by the guy. THE DESCRIPTION! That's a horrifying site in itself! Hades was described as everything dark and mysterious with A LOT of exaggeration and typical WATTPAD vocabulary. "That man was now staring at her.
She couldn’t tell the color of his eyes, but they ignited a fire under her skin, and it was like he knew; his full lips curved into a harsh smile, drawing attention to his strong jaw covered in dark stubble. He was big, well over six and a half feet tall, and dressed in darkness from his inky hair to his black suit. Her throat went dry and she was suddenly uncomfortable. She fidgeted and crossed her legs, instantly regretting the move, because the man’s gaze fell there and held for a moment before sliding back up her frame, snagging on her curves. The fire pooled low in her stomach, reminding her of how empty she felt, how desperately she needed to be filled up.
Who was this man, and how could she possibly feel this way about a stranger? She needed to break this connection that had created such a suffocating energy between them." oh and there was the dreaded YA mary sue line "she held her breath without knowing it, and forced herself to inhale"
I'll remind you that this ins there very first encounter. They haven't even talked or anything just seen each other. I don't want to go on about this cause it was awful. If i could I'd give this a MINUS FIVE out of Five stars tbh.

This book was actually good. A strong sequel to the first book! I read these books in french so i can't comment about the writing in English but in french it was seamless and smooth. That's what i love the most. I didn't have any trouble reading or understanding what was happening and the plot kept me hooked from the cliff hanger of the previous book. I can't say more than i really enjoyed this and i'm probably going to finish this series sometimes this year whilst my memory of the plot is still fresh. I LOVE the love triangle going on it's OMGGGG AMAZING!!! AND VERY WELL THOUGHT OF! I wasn't one for the love triangle in The Infernal Devices but in this trilogy it stands its ground. I can't wait to read the last book. I'm a bit scared though...
I HATED THIS BOOK;
even though i was intrigued and pleasantly surprised by the first book, this one disappointed me tremendously. I just can't-
no energy after A touch of darkness to actually write a coherent review or even rant. JUST DON'T READ THIS. Stick with the first book and think of it as a stand-a-lone

i kept on pushing this book aside whenever i had time to read and i just couldn't pick it back up. The story is just so straightforward idk... Explaining is not my forte but the characters were one dimensional and the plot was just THERE (like the characters only reacted and there wasn't any action that made sense to me). Also there were SO MANY name drops and VOCABULARY! It felt as though i was reading a japanese encyclopaedia! Some words weren't explained, as if we were to guess what they meant and when a word or event was explained, it would go on and on. I just didn't find it enjoyable and so i prefer DNFing this before i torture myself further. (sorry for the grammar/spelling mistakes i'm writing this review on a whim as always.)
Idk y but I didn't like this as much as the first book. Perhaps it's because the intrigue and mission came to a close and also that the protagonist is a bit too head strong for my liking. However I did like her way of thinking in the first book. Idk....
I really enjoyed the first half of the book but then the MC's choices just made me grit my teeth through the whole book. There are SO MANY plotholes!!! like omfg if I started to rant about the book then this review would be an essay of 5k works. So real quick

This is, without a doubt, a five star read. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Everything felt new and refreshing. Naomi Novik's storytelling is like non I've ever read before; it is detailed, lyrical, and yet all the while fast-paced. The character's are introduced by their actions and not their own voice, something the author does a lot throughout the book. The Show Don't Tell aspect is evidently put to great use!
The Woods, despite it being a setting, felt vibrant with life and dimensions, and the magic though quite flimsy, unlike the usual rigid magic systems, was interesting to learn about. Though I have a hundred-and-one questions about how this or that came to be, and why she or he was able to do this with their magic, I still thoroughly enjoyed being dragged along unknowing.
Oh and the romance! Not that there's more than 10 pages of it, it truly is masterfully woven into the story. Progressively and unfiltered, it somewhat appeared in a realistic way, and I LOVED that! It wasn't overdone like in so many other fantasy novels, the two characters felt real, their own person, never dependant on the other or overbearing.
ANYHOW I could ramble on and on but that won't do you any good. If you like dark woods, towers, magic then this book is for you! However I'll warn you that the pacing is a bit slow at the beginning.
