I quite liked this one. Jessie's class is working on a year-long project about superheros, which combines her social studies and science classes. There is lots of information about different superheros, discussion about real-world connections, and amazing drawings. The ending was a bit of a letdown, but overall I enjoyed watching Jessie come out of her shell and find her own place.

h my heart again. Jaden's fear and anger come rippling off the page. I found him a believable and intriguing protagonist, with equally believable adoptive parents. I appreciated his growth throughout the story. Another winner from Kadohata.

Okay so clearly this is a fantasy book. Well it's not a fantasy novel but in that it's a sports fantasy that many kids would want to come true. As a former fantasy league member, I enjoyed that aspect of the book. It reminded me of the thrills I got watching my players compete each week. And also brought back the thrills of the Super Bowl this year as a Patriots fan. A winner.

maybe it's the espresso gelato still running through my veins, but this book made me feel like I wanted to go run around and around and find my own everest.

I loved this one! I think the subject matter will be easy for many kids in Maine to relate to. Wonderful story.

Entirely plausible? No. But an enjoyable tale about down-on-their-luck kids taking on the heist of a lifetime.

I thought Zane was a very believable character. I still was annoyed that he went after the dog, but not as annoyed when the girl went after the gorilla in... I forget the title now. I'll have to look it up. Anyway, he's caught in Katrina after flying solo to meet a great-grandmother he didn't know he had. I appreciated the grittier look at New Orleans during that time than in "Upside Down in the Middle of Nowhere."

I thought this book was hilarious. Ferrell's family is vegetarian, but he's not sure why. One of his best friends is a girl and she's a know-it-all but he likes it? When his feats overshadow the winner of the local sledding race, events start to spiral out of control as he tries to protect a family secret.

I cried a bit at this book. Arty is a seventh grade boy who finds out that his family needs to move from Liberty, Missouri to Las Vegas. His mysterious neighbor is sneaking out at night while wearing a dark hoodie. Will Arty ever figure out what he's up to? Will Arty ever make contact with space? I think this one is a great story about friendship and space.
