I quite liked this book about the start of Hank Aaron's career. I think the illustrations are wonderful and I think it explains how much vitrol black baseball players were subjected to at a level children will understand.

This is probably a 3.5 star book. I liked it better than some of the other books about Nancy that have come out lately, but it doesn't hold the charm of the first three either.

I really like the direction Kevin Henkes is going in with this book and [b:Old Bear|3429644|Old Bear|Kevin Henkes|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1267999946s/3429644.jpg|3470539]. Both are beautifully illustrated and beautifully told stories.

I thought this was a welcome change from [b:If You Give a Mouse a Cookie|767680|If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (If You Give...)|Laura Joffe Numeroff|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1276046901s/767680.jpg|3132746] and the other books in that series. They were getting a little repetitive. I liked the retelling of Cinderella from the perspective of a pony. I can see this being a very popular book!

I liked this much better than [b:Weetzie Bat|44353|Weetzie Bat (Weetzie Bat, #1)|Francesca Lia Block|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1255925289s/44353.jpg|946181]! Now I see what the fuss is all about :)

Almost as good as [b:Witch Baby|44331|Witch Baby (Weetzie Bat, #2)|Francesca Lia Block|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1170260280s/44331.jpg|946182]

I think I like it...

I found the ending to be a little difficult for me. I didn't have any issues with the magical realism in the book, but it was building, building, building and then it seemed to just end. Maybe I need to reread it to understand the ending more clearly.

I read this for class, although I've wanted to read it for a while. I quite enjoyed it, but agree that the ending felt a bit rushed.

I can learn to enjoy first person present tense, yes I can.
