Don't listen to Deanna, this book is actually awesome.
I think it's an excellent choice for kids who started off reading Harry Potter but maybe the later books have a bit too much violence and stuff for them.

Nominated 2008-2009
Winner, Chickadee Award 2008-2009
Probably my second favorite nominee out of this year Chickadee's...to be honest, I haven't been that impressed with any of them except Velma Gratch. Nominated 2008-2009
This one was pretty good too. Nominated 2008-2009
It won the Lupine Award last year, and I hope it wins the Chickadee Award this year. One of my favorite picture books.
It didn't win. It lost to another book. Nominated 2008-2009.

I've only read two of Sharon Creech's books: Bloomability and Walk Two Moons. Both of those were far better than this book. I listened to it in audio format and was able to zone out and in and still follow the story. It seemed pretty predictable from the beginning and was actually kind of boring. I don't see it being the MSBA choice this year.
