I read this book because I knew who the author was from the fanfic community. I tended to fall on the side that believed she was a plagiarist. I still think this book borrows very heavily from other fandoms. A lot of people are talking about the comparison to Harry Potter, but I saw a lot more Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Star Wars-esque influences. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the book, but I'm wary of recommending it because of how it is so clearly influenced by other (in my opinion, better) works of science fiction and fantasy.

Cute story, but definitely geared toward a younger age. I might recommend a change in it's current classification at the library.
