I actually read this book a long time ago, but I was reviewing it to see if I would want to use it at story time. Although I don't want to, I still think it's an important book in the collection. It's the only picture book I can think of that tells kids how donor-conceived kids are created. In this case, Zak has two moms. I'm sure this situation is becoming more and more common, and I'm surprised I don't see more books about it.

I'll be honest--I'm not sure why this is on the Rainbow List. I couldn't see any obvious reasons why there was queer content in there. Perhaps it was too subtle for me?

I liked this story about Donovan getting ready to be the ring bearer. It reads like a list of rules that have been given to a child about their role in anything important. Made me smile so hard.

I don't know if I just don't care for Gertrude Stein, or Gertrude Stein through this lens. I just didn't really like this book much at all.

Loveable characters:
Yes
Ella loves her uncle Tommy, who calls her "Mini Mia" after her favorite soccer player, Mia Hamm. One day he starts bringing along Fergus, and Ella does NOT like that. She does not want to share. She acts just like a kid and I loved it. It's a little long for story time so it's probably better for reading in small groups.

It was okay. Fast paced but there were a few times that I didn't quite follow what the book was saying.

I think I liked this one better than the first because it felt a bit more action-y and less set-up.
