Not my favorite of the Chickadee nominees this year, but it was pretty good.

I enjoyed this one quite a lot. It's the story of an island after a tsunami destroys most of the people who live there. It's about Mau, who starts to lead the nation, and Daphne, the 'ghost-girl' who helps him. It's sort of like what building a nation from scratch would be, especially if there was a language barrier. I liked it a lot.

I've been going through a phase of reading picture book biographies about women who were first in their fields, but are not as famous as they should be. This is another excellent one about that topic. Adelaide Herrmann was an excellent magician but she has been all but forgotten. This story will help introduce her to audiences and hopefully make lots of kids want to practice magic.

I liked this one. I felt judged a little bit (in a good way, like these are ways that I'm doing some stuff wrong and could be better) and I laughed a bit too. I look forward to reading more of Ajayi's work on her blog and email newsletter.

Such a good book. Art is made in all kinds of ways, and it's a holiday I am happy to keep supporting at my library.

This was a fairly cute tale about a kid laying out the reasons for wanting an iguana. Slowly he wears down his mother and she decides that he can have it on a trial basis.

I pretty much agree exactly with the Forever Young Adult review. Most stories are good, some are okay, one or two didn't make sense to me at all. You get a good taste of each author and it might give you some ideas about new authors to read full - length books of.

Since I spent most of the movie yelling "I LOVE YOU MILLIE" I had a feeling I would like this book. And I did, very much, because Millie is the best. And yet, I also found myself drawn to prickly Callie, who definitely has some issues, but you sort of start to understand her. I don't think I could be as patient with her as Millie is, but I did appreciate Millie's ability to understand and forgive.

Also, I still love Hannah too.

Cute story about fighting over fuzz.

I love reading this one in fall and looking at the pictures. Wish I had more maple trees around to use as a craft alongside.
