This is a pretty good fairytale spin on the princess and the pea. I love the way Nix names things, or puts a twist on what we normally see in fairy tale stories. Anya is a great protagonist, and I think many will love Ardent as much as I do. Fun.
The squeaker still worked on my library copy. I don't know who was more surprised--me or the patrons.
If you look at this book and think about the stereotypes of board books, which is that they are for babies, then this book will probably fail for you. However, if you look at it as a sturdy book to share with your slightly older (2, 3, 4) and even older than that, it will be much more successful. Lots of opportunities to talk about language and culture here.
I think I still like "Beautiful Boy" better, but it was interesting to read the other side of the story. One of my library teens asked me to read it, so I did.
I enjoyed this one, and saw some crafts I would really like to do. And luckily, working at a library that accepts donations, I have an almost limitless supply of materials. ;)
Love this song, love the words, love the illustrations.
This one had a lot of projects I could see myself making. I enjoyed it. I hope others do too! (I added it to my library.)
