I love Theodosia, even though I think there is no way I could be as brave as she is. I can't wait for the next one to come out!
I love the poetic language in this one. Not sure many kids will really enjoy it, but adults should really give it a chance!
I have no idea who the audience is for this book, but there are passages I could definitely savor over and over.
This book would have gotten a higher rating if I had liked the David parts better. The perspective in those sections annoyed me. I realize why Lisle did it, to make the story of Reuben less confusing, but I didn't like it at all.
Life may not frighten me, but I must admit that many of Basquiat's paintings leave me feeling unsettled. I love Maya Angelou's poem though, and I think the combination of paintings and stanzas is good.
