Another fantastic example of a wordless picture book! 2013 has got it on for wordless books!

This book pulls something outside the house to appear inside the house (and vice versa) through the use of peek-through window panes on the pages. This soon becomes an exciting guessing game for what will repeat itself on the next spread.

Age: K-2
Religion: Jewish
Seasons: Summer

This would be a nice book to prepare Jewish children for a Jewish sleepover camp.

Unfortunately, the book is a bit tricky. It starts off appearing for all children, with no religious implications, but then it starts describing in detail what Jewish children do during Shabbat, which might arise a lot of questions to a non-Jewish listener/reader.

Age: Preschool
Seasons: Summer, Winter
Travel: Vacation

Yoon makes another winner with Penguin. This time, Penguin decides to take a vacation to somewhere tropical. He sails off on an iceberg with a suitcase and beach ball and finally arrives at a hot beach. Things are not like home and Penguin ends up hurting himself a lot in his unusual new surroundings. A little Crab skitters by, sees Penguin's strange behavior, and asks
"Are you lost?"
"No, I'm on vacation," says Penguin.

Crab proceeds to show him the ropes, building a lasting friendship. I kinda wished there was a small tribute to Pinecone (like what Mo Willems does) but alas.

Age: Preschool-1st grade
Seasons: All

While the story is same old, same old, the varying perspectives of this little tree seedling to full-fledged sit-on-me tree are unique and intriguing. The art is quite obviously unique. MacKay uses standing paper creations with backlighting and other fun designs. Her process can be found on her website.

Age: Preschool-Kindergarten
Season: Spring, Fall

A cumulative counting tale about a deep, deep puddle that sucks in anything that comes near it. Don't worry, it's not that scary. I enjoyed how the things that were counted at the beginning had some correlation to each other in the end.

Age: Preschool-1st grade
Season: Spring, Fall

One grumpy old man gets his spirits lifted on a rainy day when a young child returns his lost hat to him. The juxtaposing opinions about rain will delete children and adults.

Age: Preschool-2nd grade
Season: Summer
Toy: Stuffed monkey

Monkey Ono always has a plan, a backup plan, and a backup backup plan for every occasion. When his owners leave him at home to go to the beach, he is determined to get there by any means. I really liked his spiral notebook of plans and his catchphrase--Boom! Beach Day!

Seasons: All months

Age: Preschool
Season: Winter
Animal: Dog

This book has a simple beauty to it but it's a little too bland for me. There wasn't any moment where the book really stuck out.
