Age: Preschool-1st grade

Larry is a stand out kind of lemming, something his fellow lemmings find thoroughly confusing. Off on his own and trying to fit in with other animals, he soon misses his friends and returns to save them in the nick of time. Silly humor that promotes individuality over conformity.

Intriguing plot with mystery, action, dual narration, and minimal romance sets a good groundwork for the rest of the series.

Beautifully assembled book full of articles and pictures detailing the inspiration, preparation, and execution of Hamilton, intermingled with the songs and footnotes by Lin-Manuel Miranda. I love how every article references the song it precedes, creating a cohesive, flowing narrative. A gorgeous, "leather" spine will look lovely on my bookshelf--all in all a worthy purchase.

Age: Preschool

After helping out a bright red bird, Samson wonders what it is like to have a friend. After slipping into a deep slumber, Samson awakes to a vast expanse of snow and soon wonders about the safety of the little red bird. This is a sweet invitation to discuss how to make new friends and what makes a good friend.

Loved the writing and the paired illustrations. This is a great book to practice prediction as we guess how George and Blaise might respond to each other since they don't know each other's species.

Age: 2 years-Kindergarden
Animals: Zoo
Things that go: train

Dream train, indeed. This train book holds EVERYTHING a child loves. You've got zoo animals, a train, playground equipment, toys, a ball pit, paint, ice cream, a sandbox, cars, dinosaurs, and bedtime (...maybe not the last one)! Awesome OVERLOAD. The artwork is absolutely perfect set in darker tones but with brighter colors applied to the explosion of childhood favorites. Finally, I loved the giraffe lookout towards the end, and the rhythm of the text. Perfect!

Age: Toddler-Kindergarten
Animals: Crow, caterpillar

It was such fun to search for this cleverly disguised caterpillar! Fred loves to play games, especially Hide-and-Seek. His white, fluffy hair allow him to disappear into cotton balls, frothy milk, and sheep. Not only does he love to play hide-and-seek, but it's necessary for his survival, too. What a great way to tie in a science fact! (Although, I wish they had went so far as to use the word "camouflage.") When a big, black bird spies Fred on a green leaf, he tries to snatch him up for lunch but Fred scurries away, disguising himself as various white objects. We follow this cat-and-mouse game with repetitious phrases that give structure to the tale. The ending is absolutely perfect, too. I just love this one!

Age: 2-5 years

Excellent for kids reluctant to be away from mom or dad and need to be reassured that separation is not a bad thing. A perfect bedtime story and a wonderful read-aloud.

More follow-up books featuring the cutest llama evar.
