The queer historical romantasy of my dreams. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series

Kiley Reid wanted to write about college girls and she did the thing and I love that for her. Very little is happening in this book but every last character is morally grey and I couldn’t look away. I would watch a full show of this.

2024 Stonewall Book Award Winner. The sweetest journal style graphic novel with the most exquisite art and storytelling that truly captures that once in a lifetime angsty feeling of being a pre-teen, maybe better than any book I’ve ever read? Imagine Amelia’s Notebook mixed with Raina Telgemeier but make it queer and 2020s. Oh yeah and it’s Norwegian and has a single dad who makes the best playlists and I want to listen to them. 

This is a tough but well-done and important read that addresses sexual abuse on the middle grade level. Kids who have gone through this will find comfort in Patrice’s reflections and eventual courage to speak the truth. I’m grateful we have such a relatable, high quality read on such a difficult subject, and one that is very hard to get right for kids.
