Full of cliches and sap. The descriptions of France and the trip on the river were nice. Could have skipped the lectures on love.

Finally read this. A little creepy but a very original and engaging story.

Fantastic--an old fashioned story with a twist. The philosophical questions Unamuno asks are presented in a fun, sly way, and make the novel stick with you.

Love, love, love the Dark Ages and I think Nicola Griffith did her homework and can tell a great story. Hold wasn't the most lovable protagonist ever, but really enjoyed the world Griffith created. Hope for a sequel.

What a lovely story. So many hard times and poverty and mean people but no bitterness. Harry Bernstein seems like a wonderful man. Really evoked that WWII time in England. Read about him writing it as an old man. So glad he got that story down. It needs to be remembered.
