Epically powerful, especially considering it's length.

My heart may actually burst right out of my chest

I loved the voice Zoboi bought to this. The overall source material not being my fav, I did find the retelling fresh and welcome!

I found the story and this history here facinating! However, there was sonething that didn't really click for me with the writing style and the voices being given to these woman.

Becky Chambers could write a grocery list, and it would be linguistically beautiful.

This is getting a slightly higher rating than if I just went off the eriting alone - it was written by a teenager, for other young adults. And it is a beautiful reminder of how far society has come, but also how far we have to go.
Representation matters, everyone needs a voice, and we have to ensure they have it.

I am not sure if I over hyped myself on this, or if I just took too long to finish it, but this just wasn't for me.
I think maybe magical realism just isn't my jam.
The premise and writing were beautiful, however I think I could have been happy with a good 150 pages less - it took me two weeks to finish and I just never found that visceral connection to any character that I need to be able to fall in love with a book.
