This novella started off slow, which worried me because of the story's short length. But by the end, the themes in this that explored memory and personhood won me over. The climax and ending of this felt very poignant and even left me surprised at just how emotionally invested I'd become.

Picked this up on a whim and it was a sweet story with lovable characters. Technically it is the fourth in a series but each book seems able to stand on its own. Sometimes the prose did drag a little, but overall it was an enjoyable read.

Very quick read, but to the point that it felt rushed and not very memorable.

The plot was predictable for the most part, and certain subplots such as the romance or individual character arcs felt slightly rushed. Still, this was very cute and fun to read, as well as a very quick read.

I was surprised to find myself enjoying this as much as I did, if only because the previous two books I'd read by this author had been just fine for me. I think it worked to the author's strengths that this was shorter, featuring fun fantasy hijinks in an established world rather than a high stakes plot slowed down by dense world building. I also liked that the more heartfelt and serious moments didn't feel out of place with the overall lighthearted tone of the story.
